If you get tired of our videos or photos from France, I totally understand. We just had such an incredible time! One of the best vacations EVER! Skiing was incredible, people were wonderful, the kids were all so great (I think their ages right now are absolutely fantastic and they are all so fun to be around), the weather was nice, our chalet perfect, the food and wine were always amazing.... and sooooo on....
Two people made our trip so much better: Michel and Zuzana. Michel is born and raised in Meribel so his knowledge of the area was so helpful. Zuzana, as I mentioned before, helped each kid learn to ski and she helped Ali tackle the challenge last week in Meribel.
This first video is of Michel handing out candies to the 3 little beggers! You can hear me barking (do I really sound like that?) at the end for the kids to pose for a photo (the one with Zuzana)...
This next one was the highlight as it captured Ali racing Terence and Mia 'to' a pole. She was winning and didn't understand the objective of the finish line. Instead of just reaching the pole or even passing the pole, she went straight into the pole at top speed ('her' top speed). Good thing there was the padding around it as she bounced off but it looked painful!! She literally face planted into the padding! The funniest part is when Curt asks her who won. Her or the pole.... She is a funny little thing!

More Skiing Videos
This is how Ali spent the week learning to ski with her teacher, Zuzana.
The three kids decided to have a race. It was so cute as Terence and Mia kept pretending to fall over so that Ali would be the leader. I love at the beginning listening to her loud laugh. Michel, our ski guide, was with us too. He was incredible and made skiing the 3 valleys so much easier as he is born and raised in Meribel and knows the piste like the back of his hand.
There are a few times Ali skies to Curt, who is holding the camera, so that's what you are seeing when you see the camera get all wobbly. Plus, Curt is video taping her while skiing backwards. He's a multi-talented guy!!
This next video is of Curt and I skiing with T, Mia and Michel.
I took this next video from the top of the Saulire gondola. Every view on every run was more stunning then the last! It was breathtaking!

Here we are after taking the largest cable car (the Saulire Télépherique) in the world up from Courchevel. The Cable Car fits 140 people! I will include pictures soon.

Ali is Skiing!!
Ali has tried skiing many times before but I can now say she can officially ski with ease and control!! She can turn perfectly, stop, etc... Even though she did ski school in Austria over New Years, she wasn't really turning on her own properly and was spending most of her time going straight down without much control.
She spent this week in Meribel, France learning with Zuzana. Zuzana taught Terence (when he was 5) and Mia (when she was 3) how to ski too. Now, it was time for her to teach our last little one. And, she did a super job!!! Yesterday we joined Ali and Zuzana in the late morning to watch Ali's progress and join her in a few runs. It was fantastic. I was giddy with joy watching her!! She too was ecstatic and loved showing off her skillful skiing! Way to go Ali!!!
I'm having trouble with the videos. We took many! I may only be able to get them up after our return to Budapest. In the meantime, here are some snaps of Ali skiing yesterday.

Venetian Carnival in Lake Annecy
Lake Annecy, France was BEAU - TI - FUL!! I was told it was unbelievable but didn't believe it til I saw it. We were especially lucky as we were there during the Venetian Carnival which was pretty incredible. There were people all over the town in full costume. They were really elaborate and eye catching. The kids enjoyed spotting them around town.
The kids really enjoyed the carousel in the park, too. Here are a few snaps and a video.
More Annecy photos to come soon.

Traveling to Geneva
We are currently have a wonderful time in Meribel, France skiing. It is absolute bliss here!
Before any photos from our fantastic skiing adventures, let me start from the beginning.
The five of us set out to the airport on Friday afternoon to catch our 17:20 flight on SwissAir from Budapest to Geneva. When we arrived at the airport, Mia immediately discovered many classmates (and one teacher) from her school waiting to board the same plane. Many were going back to France for skiing, visiting family, etc.
They all had so much fun waiting for our flight - eating chips and chatting. Then, Mia and her best friend from school, Olivia, got to sit next to each other on the plane. Olivia is in the photo below on the far right. She lives 3 houses away from us so Mia gets to see her often.

France - Here We Come
Time is flying by so quickly that our February ski break holiday is already upon us. Planned more than 6 months ago (and for those of you that know Curt and I know that we do not tend to plan very far in advance), we are about to jet set off to a new destination that we cannot wait to explore and experience.
Fortunately for us, our kids get 1 1/2 weeks off at the end of February. So, we have decided to take our little French speaking kids to ... FRANCE ... TO ... SKI! After more than 3 years of ski lessons in German (during our Austrian ski trips), they are now going to enjoy being able to fully communicate with their ski school friends and teachers!
We will be flying to Geneva, renting a car and driving to France. Our trip will be for 9 nights and we are all very excited. Thanks to our investor's recommendation, we will enjoy spending a night and having 1 1/2 days in Annecy where we have never been. Recently, Curt and I had a look at this area online and are now very excited to visit. It looks absolutely heavenly. You can check out one of their sites that I have linked to here or view some of the below photos that I have found online below.

The really cool thing is that while we are in Annecy for the weekend, the Venetian Carnival will be in town! The kids celebrate Carnival at their school just 2 days before we depart. To see a real Venetian Carnival in action will be a real treat!
Below is a map of where Lake Annecy is. Apparently it is the half way point between Geneva and Meribel where we'll be spending our week skiing.

Below is Meribel's Three Valley's ski piste. The highest point from which we can ski from is 3266 METERS (10,715 feet)!
To put this into perspective, when we were recently in Austria over the New Year's break, we skied from 1900 meters. When I lived in San Francisco, I frequently went snowboarding up in Lake Tahoe. My favorite resort was Kirkwood and their highest point is about 9,400 feet. Before that I lived in Sun Valley, Idaho and skied daily on Bald Mountain which is just under 9,200 feet.
Meribel is going to be an entirely new skiing adventure for all us!

This video below is of the view of Chaudanne, Meribel's central lift station. It's pretty neat to see what a 5 day period, 24 hours a day looks like through these timelapse images taken by their webcame. See how the snow cannons and piste bashers are hard at work when everyone else is asleep.
And, here is the route we will drive from Geneva down to Meribel. You may need to minimize a bit to see the full map including our origin and destination.
