Trick Or Treat

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Here are my trick-or-treaters all ready to go out. Curt took them to a party up at the Rozsakert Mall where they got all the stores to participate so they could go store to store (like they did last year). They loved it and came home with bags full of candy and beautifully painted faces. I skipped it as I've been nauseous for most of the day. Think I'm getting a stomach bug and didn't want to go and spread the germs.

Loved her in this big witches hat

And my Ninja Boy, Terence:

Curt's shirt came with batteries and lights up!

Fall in Budapest

We returned from Dubai on Thursday evening. We left sunny, warm Dubai to arrive in Vienna to rain and 8 degrees C on October 29th. We returned on the direct Dubai - Vienna flight on Emirates. Emirates is an incredible airline and they really go all out for the kids. Not only does each seat get their own TV on the headrest in front but they can choose from about 100 movies, TV shows, games, music, etc. but they give out tons of presents to the kids. They each got coloring books, colored pencils, hand puppets (we got quite a few camels) and backpacks! They also got really fantastic children's meals and were served before all the adults. The kids loved this treatment! Curt and I enjoyed catching up on a bunch of movies during our two 5+ hour journeys. I especially enjoyed my return trip as I got to watch Julie & Julia (great movie!), The Ugly Truth (entertaining but glad I didn't pay to see it) and The Time Traveler's Wife (loved reading the book about 5 yrs ago).

I still have lots of Dubai photos, stories and videos to share but in the meantime, here is a photo of our trio (with Greta, 11 yrs old and still keeping up with us all) on a beautiful Budapest fall day. After 11 days in the desert, it was nice to return to our green, yellow, orange and red surroundings.

What a contrast to Dubai (photo below taken from Sheikh Zayed Road near the exit to the 'Greens' development)!

I didn't go on the hike as I was busy at home making dinner as we were expecting friends. We had a very appropriate fall meal consisting of Chilli con Carne. Starters were Spinach and Avocado Dip and Bruschetta and we finished with my mom's famous Poppyseed Cake. Yum! We spent the evening playing games by the roaring fire with our friends and all 6 of our kids!
Back to Curt's hike with the kids...
About an hour after they went out, the doorbell rang and I could hear Mia and T shouting out with excitement. I buzzed them in and opened the door to my new Siamese twin!! They thought it was so funny and told me they walked back down the hill like this (probably the last 20 mins of their walk). I thought it was hilarious and jumped for the camera! It surprised me that T wasn't freezing but I think the long hike warmed him up.
Here they are trying to do things while still connected. Curt and I found it amusing (hence this video).

Skiing in Dubai

We skiied in Dubai (as you do!)... Very weird to be in the middle of the dessert in 35 degrees C and to go into a mall to ski!! But, we had to try it. While Ali spent the afternoon shopping in the Mall of Emirates with Brigi and Kriszt, the four of us along with Bojan and Cecile (from our UAE office) went skiing in Ski Dubai. It was much better than I imagined. They are very strict about beginners skiing without instructors so it wasn't too crowded.

The ski run is 400 meters and they fill it with 6,000 tons of artificial snow (which you can buy - see below). There's a few amazing jumps inside and a little bunny hill for the little tots. They have one 4 person ski lift and a tow rope. At the bottom they have a little snow park where kids can bobsled and play. In the middle of the run there's a little ski lodge called the Avalanche Cafe where Curt and T went to warm up and eat a crepe. T was actually cold! I think the indoor temperature was about -4 degrees C. T's visit to the Avalanche Cafe was a good adventure as he reported back about their delicious crepes. Second best to Paris!

These are only a few of the photos. Bojan took some of us on his camera which he'll send and Curt also took some videos on another of our cameras. I'll add those soon.

The 4 of us on the ski lift.

This is what it looks like from the bottom of the ski run.

And an outdoor shot.

Here are the kids playing with the fake snow that they were selling outside. A small box was about 95 AED (dirhams) which is about 26USD. The powder turns to snow by adding water. It increases in size by 100 times and can be reused 3 times. The salesman explained that after 2 days it returns to powder form if the temperature is not cold enough. The video below shows the kids testing it out. They thought it was so cool.

Dolphin Bay Experience at Atlantis Hotel

On Thursday of last week we had one of our most incredible family experiences. Together with our Middle East manager, Bojan; his wife, Ivana; Brigi, our sitter; Kriszt, Brigi's younger brother; and our family of 5 we all went to the Atlantis Hotel on Palm Jumeirah for a day of excitement. We had a great time in their water park as well as their Dophin Bay where we got to play with their dolphins. It was INCREDIBLE!

Here are some of the pictures that the professionals took of us.

The famous Atlantis Hotel

And our group of 9 in the Dolphin Bay. Look closely behind us and you can see our dolphin, Sol, showing off.

Mia looked a little sad in the photo of the 5 of us holding Sol because the trainer told everyone except Mia where to put their hands on Sol.

Love these of T as he resisted kissing Sol and finally we all talked him into it. But, look at his half effort....

We all got a choice to play catch with Sol or dance with Sol. Ali giggled while holding Sol's fins and dancing but you can't see it in any of the photos as her hair is covering her face.

And here is our future Marine Biologist who adored Sol!
