The Building of the Compost Video (at last)

And yet another video (that hopefully works)...

This is from late October. The reason it is only getting posted now is because we seem to be camera collectors. We have many and I cannot keep up with the transferring of photos and videos when there are so many of us taking them. I recently pulled all the videos off one of our Flip Cameras and found this video that Curt took of the kids building their compost. I really enjoyed watching it (especially as it is cold and snowy here now and I would love to be in this weather right now)! I didn't take part in this activity and didn't know that Terence and Mia literally built the compost on their own! I really thought Curt did most of the work but he didn't. Well done T and M!!! I'm so proud of their team work, which, you too can witness through this video below.

NOTE

Sorry about the videos that were not working via You Tube. I think it should all be fixed now so check the videos again that you couldn't access earlier.

Thank you for your patience....

Waterfield's Visit Back Budapest

Our good friends, Sarah and David, came back to Budapest over the weekend for a visit. They have recently been relocated to Bucharest, Romania due to David's job. Since they left (over a year ago), they have had a recent addition to their family. Little James was born in the fall of 2009 so we were all excited to meet him. It was great having them back, even if it was only for a short time. Saturday night felt like old times. We got together at the Lea's for dinner and had a great time catching up, laughing, cuddling with baby James and eating a fab curry dinner.

David had to fly out early on Sunday for work but the rest of us enjoyed another day with Sarah and their two sons, Tom and James, at the Corinthia Grand Hotel for a wonderful brunch.

Here are the photos from our soiree on Saturday night.

Above: the boys. probably all talking work... David is in the middle.

Me having a cuddle with James. This is a self portrait, if you couldn't already tell...

Below he is getting cuddles from mom, Sarah, and daddy, David

We miss you Waterfields! We hope to see you back in Budapest, Romania or UK sometime in the next few months!!

It's funny how parents often spend so much time with the first child with things like learning the alphabet, eating alone, going to the potty, reading, writing, tying shoes, etc.

Then, the third one, who gets very little one-on-one time picks it all up without much assistance. Ali, before she even hit 4, learned how to write her name. Okay, it was only A-L-I and not ALEXANDRA like she will need to write at school. But hey, I was excited! I recently told our pediatrician during her 4 year wellness check that she could write her name and she was really impressed.

First of all, I think Terence and Mia helped teach her to write A-L-I. Secondly, she loves picking up T and Mia's Horizon books (thanks to Nana) and other learning books and doing fun things like this....

France - Here We Come

Time is flying by so quickly that our February ski break holiday is already upon us. Planned more than 6 months ago (and for those of you that know Curt and I know that we do not tend to plan very far in advance), we are about to jet set off to a new destination that we cannot wait to explore and experience.

Fortunately for us, our kids get 1 1/2 weeks off at the end of February. So, we have decided to take our little French speaking kids to ... FRANCE ... TO ... SKI! After more than 3 years of ski lessons in German (during our Austrian ski trips), they are now going to enjoy being able to fully communicate with their ski school friends and teachers!

We will be flying to Geneva, renting a car and driving to France. Our trip will be for 9 nights and we are all very excited. Thanks to our investor's recommendation, we will enjoy spending a night and having 1 1/2 days in Annecy where we have never been. Recently, Curt and I had a look at this area online and are now very excited to visit. It looks absolutely heavenly. You can check out one of their sites that I have linked to here or view some of the below photos that I have found online below.

The really cool thing is that while we are in Annecy for the weekend, the Venetian Carnival will be in town! The kids celebrate Carnival at their school just 2 days before we depart. To see a real Venetian Carnival in action will be a real treat!

Below is a map of where Lake Annecy is. Apparently it is the half way point between Geneva and Meribel where we'll be spending our week skiing.

Below is Meribel's Three Valley's ski piste. The highest point from which we can ski from is 3266 METERS (10,715 feet)!

To put this into perspective, when we were recently in Austria over the New Year's break, we skied from 1900 meters. When I lived in San Francisco, I frequently went snowboarding up in Lake Tahoe. My favorite resort was Kirkwood and their highest point is about 9,400 feet. Before that I lived in Sun Valley, Idaho and skied daily on Bald Mountain which is just under 9,200 feet.

Meribel is going to be an entirely new skiing adventure for all us!

This video below is of the view of Chaudanne, Meribel's central lift station. It's pretty neat to see what a 5 day period, 24 hours a day looks like through these timelapse images taken by their webcame. See how the snow cannons and piste bashers are hard at work when everyone else is asleep.

And, here is the route we will drive from Geneva down to Meribel. You may need to minimize a bit to see the full map including our origin and destination.
