Been Off Line

Our home computer has been getting repaired and we had no back up at home. The only computer access Curt and I had this week has been from the office. It's actually been kind of nice. Our usual evening consists of Curt getting home around 8pm. Sometimes he gets to the kids before they are fast asleep. Other times he just misses them. He'll eat his dinner then get on the computer and work until way past my bedtime. This week we've actually had a great time hanging out, watching movies, etc. I told him this is what it used to be like for our parents. No distractions from all the new electronic devices.

Regardless, that couldn't last for long. We now have a brand new HP laptop that is incredible. We are also getting our desktop back today so we'll be online 100% by the weekend. The kids love the laptop and we quickly got on skype last night to wish Aunt Sheila a happy belated birthday (with full video, sound, etc). For those of you that know me, I'm more of an emailer than a telephoner but to my far away friends let's chat! Maybe I'll even turn the video on but I must admit it doesn't look so nice from my side. It's funny seeing yourself reversed.

Bon weekend to you all. Photos and more updates coming soon.

Saturday in the City

After picking up the kids, we took them first to the movies. We saw the fabulous Mamma Mia! Mia was so excited as we are known as 'Mamma Mia' and always dance to the ABBA song when it comes on like it was written for us. Even though she's never seen the musical, she knew about it as I have been telling her for a while that I wanted to take her to see the musical. Terence was a bit bummed out about having to see a musical but I assured him that he'd enjoy it as he bounced around in my belly when I was at the musical in London with Curt and about 32 weeks pregnant with him. Ali was just happy to go to the movies as she loves going to the movie theater.

They all loved it as did I! Meryl Streep was fabulous! The entire cast was so good and had Mia and me (aka Mamma Mia) mesmerized. Terence and Curt laughed many times throughout the movie and Ali danced about 30% of the time. It was a great family movie! If you haven't seen it then go!

These three ladies together were great in the movie!

After the movies we went downtown to the park and dinner at Vapiano's Italian restaurant. The kids love it there as they can create their pasta or pizza however they like it. Terence ate almost an entire spinach pizza alone while the girls both had Pomodore Mozzarella on penne with extra Parmesan cheese. Curt and I shared a spaghetti agli olio. Yum! The bonus was that Mia ran into one of her classmates, Martin, who was also eating there with his family.

It's no fun just sitting on the swings

Ali's little face in her glass at the restaurant.

While at the playground (it was about 5:30pm) we saw all the police with their police dogs setting up for the planned demonstrations. Below is part of the email I received from the US embassy on Friday:

The three events planned for September 20 are: (1) Hungarian Charta This group will march from Clark Adam Square (Buda side circle at the end of the Chain Bridge) to Kossuth Square (Parliament). The rally's purpose is to voice concern over increased discrimination, racism, and violence against the community. Participants in this event will include PM Gyurcsány, Speaker of Parliament Szili, and Budapest Mayor Demszky. Up to 10,000 persons are expected to participate. The event begins at Clark Adam Square at 1400 hours - the march to Kossuth Square begins at 1500 hours - the event in Kossuth Square until 1730 hours. (2) Roma Community The National Roma Authority is organizing a march from the Olympic park (in Pest just south of the Margit Bridge) to Kossuth Square (Parliament) to protest anti-Roma incidents committed by far right extremist organizations. Up to 5,000 persons are expected to participate. The event will begin at 1300 hours at the Olympic Park - the march to Kossuth Square begins at 1600 hours - events in Kossuth Square until 1800 hours. (3) Jobbik, Youth of 64 Counties, Hungarian National Committee 2006, and the Hungarian Self Defense Movement These groups will protest the Hungarian Government and conduct a tribute to "victims of communism and Roma crimes." This event will be led by several persons who have organized prior anti-government demonstrations that have turned violent. Up to 1,500 persons are expected to participate. This event will begin at Heroes' Square at 1400 hours - the march to Szabadság Square begins at 1700 hours - events in Szabadság Square until 2100 hours.

Iced Latte

After a big party on Friday night, Curt and I slept in on Saturday until.... NOON! I don't think I ever even slept this late while in college!

The kids spent the night at Erika's and she and Fanny took them out on Friday for ice cream and then on Saturday took them to the science museum until we picked them up at 2:30pm. It was so great sleeping in (it was a late party on Friday). Curt greeted me with an amazing giant iced latte! He's become an expert at making them and they are yum-yum-yum!

We got on an iced cafe kick while in the US where they can do it fat-free and without tons of sugar, whipped cream, etc. In Hungary, it's very hard to find a cafe offering it with low fat milk (or fat-free) and without sugar syrup, ice cream and / or whipped cream. Can't do sweet coffee so we now drink our iced lattes at home thanks to my wonderful hubby.
