Christmas Shows

I'm just getting around to our last week of school's Christmas productions. Actually, only Ali performed on stage....TWICE! She performed with her new French school and also with her former Hungarian school. They miss and adore her so much that they keep inviting her back for all the special events. They even held most of the rehearsals on Wednesday knowing that Ali didn't have French school on Wednesdays and could easily join.
The actual Christmas show was on a Tuesday but I let Ali play hookie from French school so she could be there all day and then attend the 4pm performance. I took Terence, Mia and Ali's best friend, Molly, from French school at 3pm to watch her. It was adorable! They were so proud of their new venue equipped with a curtain! In the past they performed in a school but they've never had a curtain...

The Heidi Ovoda nursery has 4 groups from the age of babies until they go to school at 6 or 7 years old.

Below is after the production. Each kid in the show presented their parents with a gift. Ali was so proud to give me her adorable hand and foot print. Then, she was thrilled to see Molly! Thanks to Molly's mom, Kim, the girls both had beautiful purple party dresses that they were proud to wear (and match).

Saturday Night Fun

We had a great time on Saturday night at our friends' new home. The Doherty family have recently moved their kids from the British School of Budapest to the French Lycee with our trio. Since this switch (in Sept) they have also moved into a rented home just around the corner from us. On Saturday night they had a Twelfth (what a funny word) Night party. It was not on the actual twelfth day of Christmas but close enough. We also considered it a housewarming party.

It was loads of fun to take part in a good old fashioned party. Only nibbles for food, lots of wine, champagne and beer and dancing until the wee hours of the morning. I think I danced for 4 hours straight!

Thanks Fiona and Jim for the specatacular hospitality!

Thanks Nana, Papa and Aunts / Uncles

We just received the last of the 3 boxes from all our Clements (and Leal and Hering) family members. Thank you!
The girls LOVE their nightgowns! It was a huge bonus that they were already prewashed and ready to be worn right away. They smelled great (the ziploc bags helped keep them fresh in the box) and the 3 of us agreed that their smell reminded us of .... Nana! What a special gift that was!!

Of course they loved all their presents (including the book from Paula which came in the 3rd box) but the card making kit is proving incredibly useful!
And the games are all fantastic!
THANK YOU!

New Year's Eve 2009

Just a couple of shots that I really like from our New Year's Eve in Schladming!

Mia and Ali with their BFF, Keira (back in Budapest from Tampa). Keira's mom, Kerry, bought them all matching Happy New Year shirts. The hotel had an entire kids' area set up for New Years. They had their own dining room, lots of games, arts and crafts, music, karaoke. They had the best New Year's Eve ever (not many to compare it to yet)! At one point they all arrived in the formal dining room where the adults were and all 3 of them were drinking Coke! My girls are not used to caffeine or soda and were so wired! It was scary and funny at the same time. Ali keeps reminiscing about New Year's as 'the night I drank Coke!'
By the way, they all have January birthdays and will be the following ages this month:
Mia: 7 Keira: 6 Ali: 4

Below - the newest generation. What will their verbal skills be like when they are so into modern technology?

Terence with his favorite person, Riley McGann (13), in the whole world. Riley is Keira's big brother and T's known him since he was 1 day old!

First visit to Toys R Us

While in Austria skiing with our friends, the store Toys R Us came up. Our friends' kids were shocked that our American kids had never been inside of a Toys R Us. We had never thought about it. It's not like we have one anywhere near us and even when we are in the US, we don't visit the Toys R Us stores very often (if ever).

After the concept of a mega toy store was explained to our kids, we saw how their faces lit up at the thought of it. So, on our way home from Schladming we stopped at the SCS Shopping Center outside of Vienna to visit their Toys R Us. Curt offered each kid 50 EUR to spend on something. The key was it had to fit in our already crammed car (our ski stuff takes up a lot of space)! It was a very fun experience for all of us. The girls especially were verbally overwhelmed while T just walked around in a stunned silence. Here are a few videos. I especially love the one of Mia who always wants everything and never thinks about the fact that we have to pay for it somehow. (side note: recently we used the word 'cheap' in a sentence and she actually asked us what the word 'cheap' meant. I asked her if she knew what the word 'expensive' meant and she naturally knew that word's definition. I told her 'cheap' was the exact opposite. What a concept this was for her!!)

To summarize, Mia had the most difficulty finding items within a 50 EUR maximum but managed by just a few cents. Ali was easily guided and was happy with an adorable new baby doll. T left the store with 29 EUR in his pocket as he desperately wanted the new Monopoly City game. He was extremely disappointed that they only offered it in German. We tried to explain that we were in Austria but he was too sad to listen. Looks like we'll be trying to order on Amazon in the near future.

Mia's 2nd Silver

As some of you may have heard, Mia received a silver medal in her second slalom race. She was amongst about 12 kids (many of which were older). We were so proud of her and excited for her but she did not take it well. She was upset that she didn't get gold. I must say that I found this very sweet as that is exactly how I would have felt!
Terence didn't compete. I think he wants to keep his gold memory and not risk the possibility of not being the fast a 2nd time...
Ali also raced but with some assistance from her teacher as it was more challenging then she could handle. She is 3 years old (nearing 4) and raced against Keira (almost 6) and another boy almost 5 years old. Fortunately there were only 3 kids in her miniclub class so she got bronze.
Unfortunately my camera is acting up and I cannot retrieve the video footage of their races nor Ali's receipt of her bronze medal... I also had a good video of T skiing.
In the meantime, here's a short video of Mia receiving silver and a photo of her pouting about it.

2010 is here!

Happy New Year from the Clements' Family

(photo taken at the top of Planai in Schladming, Austria Dec 31 2009)

Below is the front of the hotel as we approached on Dec 31st at about 5pm after a long day of skiing.

At dinner the Austrians gave each of us one of these good luck tokens. PS We were given Arnold Schwarzenager's family's table for dinner.
And some ski shots.
Curt and I next to a Planai cow skiing while the kids were all in ski school. And, little Ali who is learning to be a ski bunny like her big sister!

After the gifts have been opened
After the tree is gone
After the carols have faded
May the happiness linger on
Merry Christmas from the Clements Family in Budapest
The below photos were taken at 5am - after Santa's visit. I couldn't sleep so I camped out on the sofa waiting for the kids to wake up. They finally came down at about 7:45am...

Greta (11 1/2 yrs old) above tried to stay awake with me while our other 2 dogs snored on...

The stockings all stuffed

The tree was surrounded by presents - including a Barbie bike for Ali.

Our Nativity Sets

All 3 kids loved helping me put out our nativity sets back in early December. I've collected quite a few over the years. They loved matching each little Baby Jesus to his Mother Mary. It was very fun.

Terence Loves His Books

I found Terence lying on our bed the other evening reading about all the complex statistics regarding each planet in our solar system. When I laid down next to him, he started talking about everything he was reading with me. He came up with some really interesting comments and questions. For example, after he noticed Jupiter's gravity was 2.1 something compared to Earth he started to chuckle. Then he said, "I bet you wouldn't even be able to open your mouth on Jupiter with the gravity being that strong".

When I noticed Pluto wasn't listed in his book, I mentioned that when I was in school we were taught that there were 9 planets in our solar system. He replied confidently, "Yeah, you were taught Pluto was the 9th planet. But then they discovered it's just a mass of ice".

Snowball Fight

Since Saturday, December 19th, we've had quite a bit of snow. The kids have really enjoyed it. Yesterday Terence's 2 best buddies, Riley and Liam (living in Tampa now), were here visiting. They are in town with their family for their Christmas break. Mia and Ali's friend, Sophia (she's a bit older), was also here with Keira (Riley and Liam's little sister). The house was full of laughter and joy. They all played so nicely together.

The day started with the 3 boys (plus one other friend, Peti), sledding across the street for almost 3 hours! After they came home and I fed them lunch, they decided to go back out again in the early evening. I got these videos of them in playing in the backyard.

It looked like they started to make a snowman but instead laid the big round snow mounds side-by-side. It looked like a snow centipede. It turned out it was a fort.

Then, the girls decided to go out and join them.

Which led to a great snowball fight.

Last night we had 6 kids (3 of our own and Sophia, Riley and Liam) sleeping here.

Fekete November Visit

One night back in November, the Fekete family came for a visit. They are good friends of ours who used to live in Budapest but dad's job took them out to Moscow a few years ago. The kids have all known each other since they were babies and it's always a fun reunion. Here are a few photos.

The first one is of Mia and Sonya. Sonya's mom, Imola, and I were pregnant with these two crazy girls at the same time. They were born within about a week of each other and have always been close friends. Now that Ali is older, she loved hanging with the 2 of them, too. They all jumped in our bed to watch their iTouches.

Then, one of the girls (probably Ali) snapped these lovely photos of all of us.

Here is Mia and Sonya again...

Ali adored the oldest Fekete kid, Sophie and did not want her to leave...
And, the boys doing what they always love best: video games. Here T and Sean are playing Wii.
